Itinerary

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar

Welcome to Mongolia, arrive at Ulaanbaatar airport, where your English-speaking guide will be waiting for you. Transfer and installation at the hotel, in the center of the capital. After a rest and lunch at the restaurant, dive into the heart of the Mongols epic by visiting the National History Museum. The many historical evidence that are gathered there, ranging from the petroglyphs of the Neolithic to the present day obviously passing for the Empire of Gengis Khan, allow to understand and to have an overview the different eras and the ethnic diversity which make the wealth of Mongolia. Your guide will then take you for a walk in the city center and on the vast place Sukhbaatar, – Local standard hotel 3*, in Ulaanbaatar –Lunch and dinner at the restaurant.

Day 2Naadam Feast

The first day of big festivities! Naadam, ‘feast of 3 men’s games’, is today the Mongolian National Day. Publicized throughout the country, these two days of sports competition see the Mongols gather in the towns and villages of the province, and of course also in the capital.
Men will have to put their manhood to the test’ in Mongolian traditional sports tournaments: the national fight (Mongol bukh), archery (on kharvaa) and the horse race ( Khurean moriny uraldaan). Archery is however open to women, and horses are hidden by children, boys or girls. You will attend the opening ceremony of the largest Naadam in Mongolia, which is held in the Ulaanbaatar Stadium.
On the Mongol President, before giving way to the national wrestling competition that takes place all day in the big stadium. After having admired these athletes in battle, you will go to the adjacent stadiums important symbolism you will discover,

Day 3Second day of Naadam Feast

For this second day of Naadam you will go to the Khui Doloon Khutag race cources, 30 km from Ulaanbaatar, to attend the horse races. They are organized according to the age and sex of the horses. The distance to (per) run varies by category. Also admires the acrobatic figures of the riders during the equestrian acrobatics for his trainer. You will leave the big crowds to set up camp in the vast steppes of the Tov. A dream opportunity to rediscover the sky, kept from any light pollution, and thus populated with infinite stars.

Day 4Mini Gobi

Go for the so-called ‘Little Gobi’: The Elsen tasarkhai sand dunes, located at the junction of 4 regions. Stretching over 80 km, they will offer you a walk in an exceptional setting. The fertile soil, thanks to the presence of groundwater, makes the landscape astonishing by mixing willows, elms, and dogwoods with sand dunes. It is on the back of camels that you will pursue your prospection. Camels are among the 3 species of ‘Long legs’ traditionally bred in Mongolia, with horses and cows/ yaks. They are used for transport, but also for their silky wool. Enjoy this bivouac evening to enjoy the sunset of a golden sun.

Day 5Kharkhorum

On the way to Karakorum, former capital of the Mongol Empire! After settling in the camp, you will visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery. First monastery of Mongolia to be built ‘hard’, its construction dates from 1585 and 3 of its 62 temples, as well as the wall and its stupas, were spared during the communist purge of 1939. The monastery has today again become an active place of worship, after years of forbidden operation. Continue your journey through time through archaeological excavations, such as bronzes, coins, pottery, religious statuettes, etc. You can also see the model of the city in 1250, build from the writings of Williams Rubrouck.

Day 6Orkhon falls

Departure for the falls of Orkhon. A superb walk to get to the foot of the falls. The river flows 16 meters high before calmly continuing its route through the steppe, not to be disturbed by this unforeseen, created after volcanic eruptions and earthquakes several thousand years ago. On your return you will be able, if you wish, to participate in the daily tasks of the life of a breeder, like the milking of the cows, the preparation of the dinner, the manufacture of aaruul- indefinable: it does not you just have to taste it! – etc…

Day 7Naiman Nuur Park 8 Lakes

Ride your proud mounts (or put on hiking shoes, as you like) to discover this beauty case where the elements are in perfect harmony. The serene lake meets the curves of the hills, lulled by the sound of the wind in the peaks of pines and larches. Heaven of peace where time stops to let the rhythm of hooves resonate and breathe the warm fire of the bivouac nights. Moments of delight!

Day 11Tovkhon Monastery

You will leave your faithful steeds to go by car and go to the Tovkhon Monastery. 1H30M drive before walking to the monastery, whose location was chosen by Zanabazar, the first pontiff of the Mongolian Lamaic Church in the late seventeenth century, and creator of the Mongol alphabet Soyombo, alone in the heart of the Khangai Mountains, wrapped in the forests of meditation and ideal meditation.
