The Mongols speak their own language, Mongolian. It is a language of Altaic origin like Turkish, Japanese and Korean. Mongolian has some regional differences in pronunciation, resulting in several local dialects. Even though the Mongolians of Inner Mongolia (China) speak in Mongolian, they have a different accent.
The Kazakhs, the minority group in the country, speak Kazakh. The Cyrillic alphabet has been in use since 1940. Today’s youths are learning Mongolian traditional Uigurjin Mongol writing, which has not been used in school since 1940. There are some newspapers and magazines that are published in Mongolian traditional writing.
